Every student is different and each needs to find the right college for them – this is where I can help!
Q. Can a child with Learning Differences find a college that meets his or her needs?
A.
Yes! I have been approached by my many parents who express concern that their child will not find the right school to meet their needs. It is my firm belief that students with Learning Differences can flourish in a higher education environment – no question about it.
College and university selection is especially critical for these students. The quality of their student support systems, and how current their differentiated instruction options are imperative, as is class size.
I’ve had considerable experience working with these deserving students, and I can help you or your student find the right fit for continued educational success..

Q. I really want to be a college athlete – where do I start to get recruited?
A.
If you love your sport and are competitive there are ways to highlight your skills to college recruiters. This is best if you are sure you love your sport. Playing only for a scholarship can be a bit misleading as athletic scholarships are somewhat rare. It’s reported about 2% of all students have them.
But if you have the skills and the motivation, a lowered tuition, or no tuition, can be a great thing. I partner with coaches and parents to position their students to be competitive applicants.
Together we’ll determine if the “full-time job” that is college athletics is right for you. We’ll look at every level of competition and if there’s a place on the team for you, we’ll find it.
Q. Isn’t it enough to work with my school guidance counselor?
A.
I have the greatest respect for school counselors, and, in fact, have served as one for years. I can assist you with developing a great relationship with your school counselor. Believe me – they want the best for you too! However, since I cap the number of seniors I work with at any given time, I am able to provide the step-by-step and individualized assistance that is often impossible for a school counselor to provide.
Q. Scholarships are hard to get, right?
A.
Experience shows there is a scholarship out there for everyone. Every student has some skill, interest, experience, or characteristic that makes them a valid candidate for a scholarship.
Q. How important are parents to the college selection process?
A.
Very important! Although you are grown up, your parents probably know you better than anyone. While my goal is partner with the student in this process, I find parental input vital and insightful.
Q. When should I start with a college counselor?
A.
As soon as you start thinking about going to college or choosing a college. Ideally, we would meet twice during sophomore year, and four times during your junior year. Then, at the end of your junior year, we would increase our session until we have you accepted into the best college for you and have several scholarship applications submitted.
The important thing to remember is that it is never too early and unless you have submitted your applications, never too late.
Q. My grades are only average. Should I just “take what I can get” in terms of a college?
A.
Absolutely not! Everything about you matters. Extra-curricular activities, special skills or maybe a personal interview can help you get accepted to a variety of schools – giving you multiple great choices.
